| Congratulations 2010 Queen Kisa! June 1, 2010 - Posted by Mari Saturday, May 29, 2010, Kisara Olivia Nishimoto was crowned the 51st Seattle Japanese Community Queen. Joining her is First Princess and Miss Tomodachi Rachel Hagiyo Fujimoto, Princess Christine Sarah Johnston and Princess Alicia Nicole Watanabe. The ceremonies featured each of the four participants in individual informal interviews with Master of Ceremonies Terry Nakano, creative expression, a group performance in classical odori and modern dance, and power point presentations by each participant showing her community involvement. Also, this year the first Terry Nakano Service Award was presented to Uwajimaya, in recognition of the decades-long unconditional support provided by Uwajimaya and the Moriguchi family to the program. This award will be an annual feature of the ceremonies. The Greater Seattle Japanese Community Queen Scholarship Program is co-sponsored by the Seattle Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival. The program is open to young collegiate Japanese American women of the greater Seattle region. They are offered scholarships, prizes, and the opportunity to enhance their cultural and community awareness. A community panel selects the queen based on her academic achievement, leadership skills, community involvement, personal accomplishments, self-expression, communication skills and creativity. The queen is given two titles: The Greater Seattle Japanese Community Queen and the Seattle Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival Queen. The court is made up of the other contestants. Throughout the year, the queen and her court represent the greater Seattle Japanese community at local community events as well as at the Cherry Blossom Festivals in San Francisco and Honolulu, and the Nisei Week Japanese Festival in Los Angeles. The queen also represents the Japanese community in the Seafair Scholarship Program for Women in July, and the annual spring festival in Seattle’s Japanese sister city, Kobe. | ||
| Queen Kisara Olivia Nishimoto Queen Kisa is currently a student at Shoreline Community College, transferring to the University of Washington Foster School of Business. In addition to capturing the title of queen, she also received the community service award presented by the Japanese Community Service of Seattle and the creative expression award presented by the Japan Business Association.
