Royal Court Qualifications back to top
The Greater Seattle Japanese Community and Cherry Blossom Festival Queen of 2010-2011 must be between the ages of 18-24; must not have reached her 24th birthday by July 31, 2010 and can be no younger than 18 years of age on July 31, 2010.
* Must not be, nor ever been married or plan to be married during her reign. * Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. * Must live in the greater Seattle area. Family must also reside in the greater Seattle area. * Must not have, nor plan to have children during her reign. * Must have Permanent Residence status defined as living in Washington State for twelve consecutive months prior to application due date. * Must be of one-half Japanese ancestry. Exceptions may be made on a case- by-case basis decided on by the Board. Royal Court Duties back to top
Throughout the year of reign for the Royal Court, duties include, but are not limited to:
* Attendance at various community events, such as fundraisers, festivals, and banquets. * Volunteer monthly at Keiro Nursing Home and Nikkei Manor Assisted Living Facility. * Fundraise for royal court trips to Honolulu and San Francisco. * Coordinate and supervise the following year's contestants. January through May Weekly Saturday practices for coronation May Phase I - Judges Interviews Phase II - Coronation Nisei Veterans Committee Memorial Service June through December Fundraising for trips to Honolulu and San Francisco June Seafair preparation for our representative, with Seafair commitments throughout the summer. ACRS Walk for Rice Event July Seafair Coronation Seattle Bon Odori Festival Seattle Chinatown Parade August Nisei Week Festival in Los Angeles September through May Monthly volunteering at Keiro Nursing Home and Nikkei Manor Assisted Living Facility September Nichiren Chow Mein Dinner October Coordinate Queen’s Tea with prospective contestants for the following year November Densho Sushi & Sake Fest Nisei Veterans Chow Mein Dinner Fundraiser December Nisei Veterans Christmas Party January through May Lead and supervise practices for the incoming court January Consul General of Japan’s New Years Event JACL Installation Banquet March Cherry Blossom Festival in Honolulu April Seattle Cherry Blossom and Cultural Festival Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco May Phase I - Assist and supervise the incoming court Phase II - Farewell coronation
